The definition of 'birding' or even 'bird-watching' can include almost anyone (to someone who isn't a birder), whereas a birder's definition of who is/isn't a birder (or even what constitutes birding) will be somewhat different.

Hi. I'm off to Belize in a couple of weeks and it will be far easier to get my partner onto birds using a green dot laser pointer than verbal directions, similar to what bird tour guides use. Does anyone have any experience of recommended models/brands? Thanks

The Nikon P1000 is an interesting case. I'm a bit of a lens snob, so I've not paid much attention to the super-zoom bridge cameras, but apparently Nikon has. A very interesting feature is the Bird-watching Mode -- made more effective by way of the extreme range of the zoom lens. The bad news...
