Promethazine, commonly known as Phenergan, is primarily used as an antihistamine to alleviate symptoms of allergies. It can also help with nausea and vomiting. But additionally, it can also have a calming and sedating effect and may therefore also be used to help with agitation, anxiety and insomnia.
